“ Even in forgetting, we were forming.

Even in our laughs, we were mourning.  ”

— lines from the song “Not Lost” by Urphme

“Not Lost” explores the feeling of being in an unfamiliar place, uncertain yet not without hope. I envisioned it as a story of someone emerging from darkness, stepping into a world that feels strange and overwhelming but also quietly beautiful in its newness.

Whether our past was beautiful or painful, the song lingers in that bittersweet in-between, where joy and struggle coexist, and every experience becomes part of who we are.

Design

My initial concept featured a silhouette walking toward an unknown world with an upside-down reflection below the horizon. In the mirrored image, the figure stands still in a pool of darkness, representing a gate to a contrasting world. Flipping the image allows viewers to choose their narrative — whether to dwell on past sorrows or keep moving forward.

In the final style frame, I added floating lanterns as guides leading toward a distant mountain partially hidden by clouds, symbolizing hope and direction.

Animation

Throughout the animation process, I primarily worked on the iPad using Procreate and Procreate Dreams. This allowed me to animate the layered textures within the characters as they moved.

I made final adjustments in DaVinci Resolve for compositing, adding titles, lyrics, and creating multiple aspect ratios, including 4:5, 16:9, and 9:16.
